Building Pilgrim Villages

Second grade is speedily moving along in building their Pilgrim Homes, Farms, Mayflower, and the Thanksgiving Table...  They are working so hard, and adding such incredible details.. The teamwork is amazing and we can really feel great energy in the room. The class is really getting a great hands on learning experience...

Letter Writing Publishing Party

In second grade we worked on a Letter Writing Unit. We learned about all the different types of letter we can write as well as the five parts of a letter... 

All the different letters we wrote: 

• Friendly Letter
• Formal Letter
• Greeting Card
• Thank You Notes
• Persuasive Letters
• Invitations

We practiced writing all of these different types of letters, and well as using the Smart Board for our lessons... 

What are the five parts of a letter?

• Date
• Greeting (Dear, To Whom it May Concern)
• Body
• Salutation (Thank You, Regards, Love, Sincerely)
• Signature (Your Name)

After we practiced writing these letters, we spent time editing, and revising.. we Published not one but two of our favorite letters... next was our grand PUBLISHING PARTY.. 

CRAZY HAT DAY FUN ....

Second grade had a great time at our Crazy Hat Day Celebration.. There were many creative hats .. with lots of very cute kids ... :)

Shopping at the Book Fair

Second grade had a chance to browse, scan, and buy books at the book sale. This is great way for children to gain independence, and start thinking about what they like to read, what interests they have, and choosing a just right book. 

Special Read Aloud Time in Second Grade

Thank you to all the parents and kids who read to the second grade... this year not only parents read, but several kids were brave and read to their friends...
