The children learned all about this very special day in class. In addition, we discussed the importance of saying "sorry" and forgiving our friends and family for anything we may have said and done.
To help us understand some of the concepts of this holy day, we....
- The children made honey cake today for a sweet new year
- The children decorated a "spin wheel" with the things we do on Yom Kippur.
- The children walked to the bay and said a special prayer for a good year- ( it is a custom to go to a bay of water and "throw away out sins" before Yom Kippur )
- The children learned about the concept of giving extra charity before Yom Kippur. A custom we do before Yom Kippur is a chicken is given to poor people as an atonement for our sins.
- Lastly, the children wrote their own Hebrew book about the concept of saying "selicha" which means sorry.
- "Ba, Ba, Yom Hakipurim Ba....."
- "Mi Yo'de'a, Mi Yo'da'at, Mitzvah Me'hatorah....B'yom Ha'ki'pu'rim"
May you be written and sealed for a sweet new year!
