Publishing How To Stories

We just finished a Writing Workshop Unit on "How To" .. What is a How To? 
A How To is when we use sequencing words such as: first, then, next, last, finally to write about how to do something.. How To bake a cake, how to brush our teeth, how to ride a bike, etc.. 

Second graders made a list of things they know How To do, and then wrote many different how to pieces before they picked the one they would like to edit, and publish... we had a great publishing party with lots of yummy treats.. 

Building Native American Homes Part 2

In Social Studies we spent a lot of time learning and researching about the Native Americans. We learned about how they lived, what they needed to survive, what types of homes they lived in, and what they ate. Our culminating project was for each tribe to build the home they lived in. The four tribes were:

• Algonquin
• Apache
• Navajo
• Iroquois

Hanukkah Recital

The second graders were so excited to participate in our Hanukkah Recital. They practiced the songs all day long, even when it was their free time. They felt such a great sense of pride for their accomplishment.
