Properties of Matter
In Science our focus is the Properties of Matter. We learned that matter can be a solid, liquid, or gas. We also learned that matter can have a size, shape, color, and texture. We used attribute blocks to sort matter by color, size, and shape. Once again we worked on our team building skills within the lesson. As you can see this experiment was completely hands on. The children had a great time sorting these attribute blocks. Their creativity is endless.
Making Our Own Continent Maps
In Social Studies our introductory unit was on the Seven Continents. After we learned about the Continents, we put the children into groups, where they had the opportunity to not only draw their own maps, but also work on teamwork skills. We believe that within each lesson there is an opportunity to build in a social or behavioral skill. The result was amazing. The maps turned our beautifully, and are hanging in our classroom, and second graders were able to build relationships with their friends.

SHARING OUR "ME BAGS" - PART 1
One of the first things I always do in any class I teach is have them fill up their "me bags" and bring them into school. These bags are good ice-breakers, and a great way for all the kids to learn about each others likes. It also give the teachers great insight about their students.

Learning about the Continents in Social Studies
In Social Studies we learned about the Seven Continents, where they are located, and what bodies of water surround them. We also discussed what countries can be found on each continent. We did an activity where they kids had to label to continents and color them in. It was a very good activity where the kids got a review of what they learned.
